07:51AM EDT - I'm here in Berlin, waiting to see Huawei's Matebook launch

07:51AM EDT - Actually using my MateBook 2016 for this event, because I left my main laptop charger at home...

07:52AM EDT - A sizeable crowd starting to build, we just got the 10 minute warning

07:52AM EDT - I've got a front and center seat, albeit in the second row

07:53AM EDT - There's a desk on stage with a stack of devices

07:55AM EDT - Using event WiFi for this one, seems ok sort of

07:55AM EDT - A note on the Matebook 2016

07:57AM EDT - For the most part, it was a good device with a few teething issues

07:58AM EDT - The folio activated sleep/shutdown, the hinge was basic, some would say the $2100 high-end SKU was a lot for a 2-in-1 device

07:59AM EDT - But the design ID was good. For anyone who has used a high-end Huawei smartphone, it felt similar

07:59AM EDT - one minute to go, wifi is getting slower

08:00AM EDT - Here we go

08:00AM EDT - Looks like Huawei is aiming at the business crowd. That's a good idea - it's a stable market. But is it a profitable market?

08:00AM EDT - Richard Yu to the stage

08:01AM EDT - Three products to be launched today

08:02AM EDT - 'Our target is to bring the full range of the digital life from Huawei, and the PC is an important part of that'

08:03AM EDT - 30 years of tech R&D, bringing this to the digital life style

08:03AM EDT - Launched Matebook 2016 last year, 12-inch 2-in-1 ultracompact

08:03AM EDT - First to introduce fingerprint login to 2-in-1 segment

08:03AM EDT - Launched 2nd Gen Huawei Watch 2 at MWC

08:04AM EDT - Launched P10 in MWC, 2nd gen Leica

08:04AM EDT - We feel the PC industry lack innovation

08:05AM EDT - Today is launching the Matebook X, Matebook E and Matebook D

08:06AM EDT - First up, the Matebook X - smaller than a sheet of A4

08:06AM EDT - Super thin bezels

08:07AM EDT - Unlike XPS, camera still at the top

08:09AM EDT - Unimetal body - Aluminium, sandblast finishing

08:09AM EDT - Curved Edges Design

08:09AM EDT - 13-inch laptop, world's smallest

08:09AM EDT - 4.4mm bezel

08:10AM EDT - larger display than the MacBook Pro 13.3-inch

08:11AM EDT - No rubber bumper in the corner - purely flat display

08:11AM EDT - 2160x1440 3:2 with 100% sRGB, 1000:1

08:11AM EDT - 12.5mm z-height

08:12AM EDT - Macbook 12-inch at 13.1mm

08:12AM EDT - 1.05kg

08:13AM EDT - 7th Gen 2.7GHz

08:14AM EDT - Christian Morales, CVP Intel on stage

08:14AM EDT - Relationship with Huawei started in 2015

08:15AM EDT - '1.7x productivity vs 5 year old PC'... that's a bit low, isn't it?

08:15AM EDT - 'Matebook X is no compromise in performance'

08:26AM EDT - WiFi isn't working that great

08:38AM EDT - WiFi is dying

08:39AM EDT - Talking about the Matebook E now

08:39AM EDT - Our Prebrief news went up already :)

08:45AM EDT - Matebook D - 15.6 inch FHD going after education and business

08:50AM EDT - Matebook D - 15.6 inch FHD going after education and business

08:51AM EDT - WiFi starts working when the event ends... Typical

08:51AM EDT - Here comes the pricing...

08:55AM EDT - I'll wrap it there and update the news posts with pricing.

So, it is a book about mating?
  • WorldWithoutMadness - Tuesday, May 23, 2017 - link

No, it's about Straya asking book from mate.
  • ddriver - Tuesday, May 23, 2017 - link

Nah, that would be a bookMate.

Be careful with Huawei products, the i7 you bought might turn out to be i3(Huawei says it's for your won good!).
Sorry, I can't resist posting the trolling comments.

That's a bit hard to catch. I was pondering a bit till I remembered the P10 storage problem.

    storage and ram.
and they got the balls to tell you that you're wrong, who do they think they are?

I'd rather buy a Lenovo, at least they've got decent support and repair manuals available even for tablets. My 4-year-old Lenovo Windows tablet needed a new power button after being dropped one too many times but the rest of the tough little thing still works.

08:04AM EDT - We feel the PC industry lack innovation

    Ooh, so right
I was looking for an innovative laptop to run Windows XP and apps without the need for a Gimped Virtual Machine

08:02AM EDT - 'Our target is to bring the full range of the digital life from Huawei, and the PC is an important part of that'

Thank goodness, I've been looking for a modern laptop that runs the full range of my Windows-XP digital applications instead of being stuck with Spyware Platforms 7 / 8 or 10

    08:15AM EDT - '1.7x productivity vs 5 year old PC'... that's a bit low, isn't it?

You bet, you should be able to run Windows XP and my Windows XP apps a lot faster than that

Wait a second, are you sure this isn't just another gimped laptop that locks you into a Spyware Platform and prevent the End User from exercising full control of their own system?

This sounds a bit too good to be true!
