I wonder what NV is gathering from their video drivers that requires a logon account. Ugh, all this signing in certainly helps make the computer less of a tool for getting things done and more of a tool for a large number of corporate entities to harvest data.
There is a government & corportate war on internet free-speech.
So many news sites have dropped their semi-anonymous 'disqus' commenting structure, and the EUSSR is busy enacting new laws against those whom have opinions they don't like.
Moving everyone to accounts directly linked by social media holds them more to account and aids tracibility of users.
It's not really governments that worry me. They have a responsibility to their citizens to ensure a lawful, orderly society exists and they therefore should ultimately have the tools at their disposal at all times to do just that. I sleep better at night knowing there are agencies dedicated to that duty out there keeping an eye on unlawful, dangerous activity like speeding, recreational drug use, or firearm purchases. My problem with it is when private corporations are gathering similar data with an aim to hock more of their wares at me and doing so by using clickwrap agreements that have a history of being unenforceable in courts.
You do realize that this country was founded on "government for the people by the people" not government to subjugate the people and in prison the people, right? The government here has the mistaken idea that it is above the people and the law and you want them protecting you? They are currently no better than the criminals they are putting away.
^This. There isn't much else to add. It is a sad world when millions of people like BrokenCrayons are so uninformed, but that is no coincidence. This ignorance was socially engineered by the governments.
I think they're not gathering anything, they're just using "the cloud" to back up one's settings. That aside, I haven't found anything interesting in GFE before and that hasn't changed with 3.0.
Perhaps that's true now, but I can't imagine it'll stay that way. The proverbial data mining cat has escaped the bag and NV is a big enough company with a secure enough hold on PC graphics to leverage their control of it through GFE or by some other vehicle to the detriment (but espoused benefit) of their customers just as Microsoft, Alphabet, Facebook, and a number of other dominant companies have already done. I'd love to believe there's a useful purpose, but backing up settings to "the cloud" seems unnecessary and of little to no benefit. It smells badly of Google-esque Trojan Horse or Microsoft bait-n'-backpedal.
The account requirement is a game breaker. Nope. Enough of this bullshit with accounts for everything. This software is just bloated trash anyway. There is zero utility in it for me. I guess people who like to record their games will have no choice though.
Will I still be able to download bare drivers manually?
Thought this would be great to improve memory usage updating, but the update failed to install and it uninstalled itself. Side-Effect = PC much more responsive, was getting slow as heck before. Always wondered what was slowing everything down.
hmm I have 2.5 mb/s connection... remember that there are people like me that has shitty internet connection (not because I cannot afford it is because we simply don't have the option in some places).
NVidia GFE has COMPLETELY revived my love for PC Gaming. If you think signing in with an account is an invasion of privacy, you better stop using Google for anything and WIN 10 as Cortana sends ALL YOUR WEB PAGES (yep even THOSE) no matter what you set on the PC and it ties it to your IP Address.
With SHIELD TV, I haven't powered on my XBO in MONTHS and I have zero desire to do so. I play all my controller games on my 4k 70inch TV and if the game supports 4k, it even flows through, OVER WIRELESS MIND YOU. Plus the option to bring my Shield Tablet to a friends house and CO-OP any game I own from my home pc to his/her house... amazing.
Nvidia has completely made a segment and market that grabs the appeal of Console gamers and PC gamers and it gives you almost no limitations (minus Steam controllers don't work and some games only support xbox wired controllers via streaming). Welcome to the future. If you have a problem with what NVIDIA is doing, you're living in the past and are obviously afraid of change. It's time to retire your WIN XP box and move into the future
Actually he's right, I was skeptical too. I have a Shield TV and its amazing. I use it more for gamestreaming than local PC gaming, but even local PC gaming was great.
For the signin, just use a fake email, there's even a website where U can get credentials so they bug me not.
Went through and manually updated nvidia drivers and uninstalled geforce experience on all 3 of the systems in my house.
Sign in for driver updates is ridiculous. Windows 10 may WANT you to sign in with a windows live account for cloud sync, etc. But it doesn't REQUIRE that you sign in with a windows live account to get updates/patches/etc.
The idea that functionality is dictated by sign in on anything that isn't actively using the account as part of the functionality is B.S.
Glad to see the healthy scepticism here about the login nonsense. The comments on toms are way to pro-NV for my liking (someone said it's not a driver and is optional, to which I say in that case the tick box should be off by default). Pretty obvious NV is lining up to change how their stuff works to be more like a home media centre. Meanwhile, MS moves towards a subscription model. One of these days a simple kettle will come with boot firmware and a login requirement, then the gullible public might finally realise this madness has gone too far, but by then it'll be too late.

Log for obtaining drivers is odd, unless this is the first step into a platform like Steam.I wish they would also put as much expediency in updating the CUDA toolkit.
