Google and Samsung had scheduled an event, Unpacked: Google Edition, for October 11th, but the companies today reported that the event has been canceled. It was expected that Samsung would release a new smartphone, which has been referred as both, Galaxy Nexus and Nexus Prime in reports. Google was also set to launch the next version of Android (4.0) called Ice Cream Sandwich. The new Samsung phone would have run the new Android obviously.

No concrete reason for the cancelation was given, although Samsung said that they felt that "it wasn't the right time to announce a new product". This suggests that the companies decided to postpone the event due to Steve Jobs' death, and if this is the case, it's a very respectful call towards Steve. The event is set to be rescheduled at a later date but no further details have been given yet.

Communism, I never met the man and if you have not either, then I don't think it is fair to make such judgements. People who take their job seriously and are dedicated to their craft are often seen in such light. You can look at actors, musicians, artists, designers, researchers, or any other field, and find people who take their visions so seriously that nothing would be allowed to get in the way of turning them into reality. It is easy to label such dedication as crazy but it is hardly fair to do so. Some people just work differently than others.

Bupkus, I think yes. Remember that even though these companies are competitors, the men and women involved are usually not. The talented engineers and designers at Google can easily pick up an Apple product and admire it from their respective fields. Bill Gates could interact with OSX and respect the efforts that went into it just as easily as Steve Jobs did. Creators tend to have a different perspective than consumers. They don't like being so close minded and judgmental.

While the idea that it was a conspiracy by Apple to announce his death the day after the new iPhone was announced is going too far, there is something to be said about the will and strength of a person when battling terminal diseases. I know most of this isn't really based on anything provable, but its just a belief I have that the mind and body can give up or keep fighting when near death. And if Jobs was really struggling, the final act of passing the CEO mantle to Tim Cook (announcing a new iPhone), may have enabled him to let go, and it that moment his mind/body may have given up. He was the far-reaching control freak, as everyone knows, and he was handing off Apple to someone else. I know it sounds kind of crazy, but that's how I would explain the strange timing of his death.

What's wrong with the article? Many people have been waiting for Samsung's new phone and Android 4.0, and it's definitely newsworthy to report that the launch has been postponed.

Remember that compteting, or disagreeing with, the guy doesn't mean it's ok to not show the proper respect.

Whatever the guy did or did not do, it's all in the past now.
