NVIDIA officially launched its first retail desktop GK107 part earlier this week as the GeForce GT 640. After getting a load of the mammoth GTX 680 Classified, EVGA's GeForce GT 640 looked downright adorable.

ganeshts - Friday, June 8, 2012 - linkFor a HTPC card, dual slot is a no-no, and gamers are going to go for non-GK 107 Keplers anyway..
Ryan Smith - Friday, June 8, 2012 - linkEh, it depends on the size of the HTPC. For an HTPC with the clearance for 2 slots it could make sense if the card is significantly quieter than single-slot competitors. The dual slot GTS 450 was incredibly quiet, and GT 640 is significantly lower powered.

Writer fight! Writer fight! Writer fight!
Nah, but seriously though. I think dual slot HTPC cards have a home in HTPCs where quietness is valued more than size. Like everything, there's always a trade off.
Taft12 - Friday, June 8, 2012 - linkEVGA's got you covered there!
384 CUDA cores compared to 96 in the GT 440 in this form factor?! Hang on while I count the number of PCI-E x16 slots in my motherboard and I'll tell you how many I'm ordering!
Now who'll be the first OEM with a DDR5 version?
Oxford Guy - Saturday, June 9, 2012 - linkquiet trumps size
CeriseCogburn - Monday, June 11, 2012 - linkIf you can hear all the viewing company in the room breathing, passing gas, snorting, smacking their gums, sucking their teeth, and rustling their feet over the "silence" of the room with no fan sound then you've got a problem.
Of course who could deny the two seconds in the lifetime of the clearly insane self admiring no sound fan freak who tilts his noggin up against the case trying to hear a whisper, smiles and turns blue holding their breath in the effort. (that must be what caused the brain damage to begin with)
CeriseCogburn - Monday, June 11, 2012 - linkForget double wide, by the talk of those here over the last ten years half height or forget it.
Then don't forget they all have the most sensitive girly eardrums, as perfectionists always do, so after the fan sound is scrutinized like it's a baby crying, they crank the surround sound on their videos to the moon or jam on noise cancelling headsets where you couldn't hear a mack truck crashing through the wall into the room.
cdube - Friday, June 8, 2012 - linkAwwwwwwwww cute
themossie - Friday, June 8, 2012 - linkThis really reminds me of the old removable drive bays laptops used to have...
Wouldn't it be nice to have a swappable GPU bay? Not on the ultra-thins, of course.
mobutu - Friday, June 8, 2012 - linkThis SHOULD have been passive cooled.
it screams for it.
what a shame.
